The kitchen has always been my favorite part of a home, and my tiny house kitchen is no exception! In fact, my kitchen takes up so much of my tiny house that I often call it a Tiny Kitchen on Wheels! The kitchen has always been where guests tend to gather, art or DIY projects get done and the majority of my work-from-home time is spent (even when I had a designated home office). And because I knew I would be spending the majority of my time in this space, I splurged on a few essentials to really give it a feeling of luxury.
I knew I wanted elements that gave off a shine or reflected light in the space to make it feel bigger. So I did a ton of research, found a thousand ideas and changed my mind a million times, but I have to say I love how it all came together. These are the top things that really make my kitchen feel like the dream kitchen I always wanted.
1. Quartz Countertops
Nothing brightens a space like shiny white quartz. Unfortunately, these countertops did delay my build by 6 weeks or so, but it was definitely worth the wait! I used Nustone Quartz and my shade was called Mammoth.
2 & 3. Farmhouse Sink with a Matte Black Faucet
My sink is a 30″ Bocchi Fireclay Sink which didn’t come with the wire protector. As a result, some dishes were broken! So I now use a silicone mat in the bottom of the sink to protect anything breakable. I paired this farmhouse sink with a Delta Essa Faucet. I love this style for 3 reasons: it’s simple, affordable and most important, the matte black finish doesn’t show water spots like stainless steel!
4. Open Shelving
I live in Colorado where it’s super dry and consequently, dusty! For that reason, I’m glad I have cabinets for most of my dishes. However, I do enjoy having these open shelves to setup my bar and display a few pieces of my grandmother’s china.
6. Tiny House Kitchen Luxury: Champagne Bronze Hardware
I was going for a modern farmhouse look with a glam feel and I loved the gold hardware I was seeing everywhere… but anything labeled as “gold” looked too bright and kinda cheap in person. I ended up finding these Champagne Bronze Liberty Drum 1 1/4″ round pulls (they have such a nice feel!) and these Liberty Mandara 3 3/4″ drawer pulls at Home Depot.
7. Not-So Tiny House Kitchen Must: Kitchen Aid Mixer
Ok this isn’t really a design element but… I do love keeping it out on my counter because it reminds me of the deep connection between family, food and love! I have had this 5qt White Kitchen Aid Mixer for over 20 years and it still looks new after a ton of use! I’ll just say it though… this appliance is a heavy space hog, so only get one if you’re ok with it being on your counter all the time.
8. Tiny House Kitchen Tip: White Appliances blend right in!
I know white appliances aren’t usually a signature of dream kitchens but I wanted this space to feel seamless and blend in with the white shiplap and quartz countertops. If you look at most stainless refrigerators, they have black sides and I didn’t want a big black blob in my kitchen. This small Frigidaire refrigerator is no frills but it gets the job done and blends in. What I do absolutely love is my tiny 24″ Unique Off Grid Propane oven. It is just so darn cute and having propane was a must for me!
To sum it up, light and bright were my key elements to creating my farmhouse look. If had to start all over and could only choose one thing, it would definitely be my quartz countertops. They definitely give my tiny space a luxurious feel. I hope my kitchen elements help you design your dream kitchen (whatever size it is!). Leave me a comment and let me know what your favorite farmhouse kitchen elements are!
